Devel Sixteen Specs

Devel Sixteen Specs

When you say supercar, what comes to mind? Other than the Fast&Furious franchise, that is?

Well, let's list out the ones we know and have seen strutting their stuff on hallowed tracks like the Nürburgring. The McLaren Speedtail is coming up in 2021, promising 250 mph. The Bugatti Chiron is in existence now, maxing out at a top speed of 261 mph. Then, there was the Koenigsegg Agera RS, although production for this stopped in 2018, at 277 mph top speed. To top that, there's the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, going 304 mph.

So is there a faster car on the horizon, or does the Chiron Supersport take home the trophy, and keep it? Apparently, there's a new devil in town, although it's spelled Devel and it comes bearing no contracts, but a car called the Sixteen.

The Devel Sixteen is nothing but pure sin, dripping top speeds that could take you to the moon and back, and then some. So here's what we do know about it till now, and why it sends delicious shivers down our spines….

Meet The Dubai-based Devel Motors

via Road&Track

Devel Motors is a Dubai-based motor company that plans to make the most exclusive hypercars and vehicles of the future. Rumors about the Devel Sixteen have been floating around since the late 2000s, mostly because the idea was conceptualized in 2006, while R&D began in 2008. That said; most experts and even hopeful fans were skeptical about it all till the Devel Sixteen prototype was unveiled in 2013, at the Dubai International Motor show.

To further cement the concept into reality, the Devel 12.3-liter V16 engine was shown in 2015, and finally, in 2017, the Devel Sixteen production series also launched at the Dubai International Motor show. Not much is known about the people behind Devel Motors, except for one press release that quotes Majid Al Attar, co-founder and car developer, saying, "The Devel Sixteen is catching eyes around the world, including those of Toronto's hip hop megastar Drake". So, Supercar Blondie has driven it, and apparently, both Drake and Snoop Dogg have put down for one.

What Makes The Devel Sixteen So Devilish?

via TopSpeed

Let's talk engines first, with the Devel Sixteen bearing a V16, so built by Steve Morris. That said; while the engine is powerful, displacing 12.3-liters and further amped up by four turbocharges, in essence, it is two Chevrolet V8s welded together, period.

Apparently, this very engine, hacksaw as it may sound, will jet 5007 horsepower. Let that sink in. We are not talking about a hypercar that can make 1,000 horses, we are talking about a car that will jet more than 5,000 pounding horses from its quad-turbocharged V16.

Plus, the car is not just a show and no go. For production, Devel Motors is in talks with Manifattura Automobili Torino. This is also the company figuring out production for other hypercars like the Intense Emozione with Apollo. The car can make 5,000-plus horses, but its design has to be able to withstand that kind of force, energy, and resistance as well. Think of the wind shear on this one!

What kind of prices are we talking about? Well, according to various media reports, there are three versions of the Devel Sixteen to contend with, although the pricing information was when the Devel Sixteen was to go on sale in 2019. It's 2020 now, and the world, as we know it, is unlikely to be the same again.

Nonetheless, this is what we know, till now. The first two models are road legal. A base model will bear a V8 and jet 2,000 horses, costing about $1.6 million. Then there's a mid-level model also carrying a V16, restrained to only 3,000 horses, and may retail for $1.8 million. Finally comes the track-only variant, the 5,000-plus horsepower one, likely to be upwards of $2.2 million.

With looks reminiscent of a fighter jet and two massive twin exhausts at the back, this may be the car giving Bugatti and McLaren the worst nightmares yet.

Let's Talk Specs

via Supercars

Is the Devel Sixteen the world's fastest car? Well, not yet, mostly because none of the manufacturer's claims have been proven. But this is what Devel Motors has to say about the car. A 0-60 mph sprint is done in 1.8 seconds. Mic drop. If that really comes out as the truth, there is no other car in the world that can match the prowess of the Devel Sixteen. It can also hit 100mph in 2.2 seconds, and the claimed top speed is 348mph.

Along with 5,007 horsepower figures, torque is supposed to stand at a mind-boggling 3,475 ft-lb, and all this power runs on a dual-clutch AT, running on an all-wheel-drive format. The carbon fiber body and titanium valves all work to channel the power into making the Devel Sixteen an unbeatable car considering it weighs only 2,300 kilos.

Clearly, the Devel Sixteen is real, and something that may be giving other hypercar manufacturers sleepless nights. Now if only, we'd get to see one up, close and personal.
